Our Heritage

Police Health: an ongoing commitment to excellence

Police Health was created in August 1935 by police employees to assist them and their families. Concerned that existing health provision did not meet their needs, our founders established their own health fund to secure peace of mind knowing that they would be fully supported through sickness and poor health.

Across the last 90 years, the provision of and demand for healthcare has evolved significantly. Nevertheless, our enduring purpose — to deliver a diverse range of high quality, value for money health services for our members and their families — is as true now as it was then. This commitment to excellence — which saw us launch Emergency Services Health in 2016 — forms an unbroken link with our heritage. It remains central to what we do.

Today, our not-for-profit private health fund covers over 90,000 people nationwide across our two brands — providing true peace of mind and acting as a trusted partner in health and wellbeing.

2001 — Police Health changes its constitution to allow employees of other States, Territories and Federal Police departments to join the fund

2009 — the fund changes from an incorporated association to a company with the formation of Police Health Limited
